It is the mission of the Aledo Lions Youth Basketball Association (ALYBA) and Aledo Lions Youth Activities Inc, to provide and promote a safe, recreational basketball program for the youth of Aledo and eastern Parker County. To this end, ALYBA encourages good sportsmanship, development of strong playing skills, and promoting friendly relationships among players, coaches, referees, and parents. ALYBA and Aledo Lions Youth Activities are 501c(3) non-profit organizations and rely on the support of the Aledo ISD and generosity of volunteers who give their time for the kids in our community.

Regular season information - Registration 2024-2025 will open 9/15 and close 10/15 with late registration for an additional fee until 10/22/24 for 1st thru 6th grade boys and girls divisions.  7/8th Grade coed will be open later to accommodate middle school tryouts.

Aledo Lions Youth Activities Inc is a 501c3 non-profit organization that encourages participation and helps develop skills. We want to give our children an appreciation for the game as well as teach good sportsmanship and ask our volunteer parent and high school player coaches & player parents and grandparents to model this behavior.

Who can play: Our program is open to 1st thru 6th grade boys and 1st thru 6th grade girls and is grade level play. We will also offer 7/8th Grade Co-Ed. As we continue to grow in Aledo, it is becoming necessary to limit the number of teams and players so do not delay in registering when enrollment opens. We believe in a player count that allows solid court time for all players on a team. Practices: Begin the week after Thanksgiving. There are no practices during holiday breaks or days AISD is closed. Practices are held weeknights and are selected by the volunteer parent or HS player coaches. We cannot guarantee practice dates/times but if you want to volunteer to coach, you can select what works for you! All practices and games are in Aledo.

Season Games: There will be 8 Season games played on 6 consecutive Saturday's with the first game starting after the AISD Holiday break. Each team will have at least 2 double header game days (dependent on registrations and number of teams we have in each division could be more). The last game day will have an end of season tournament for all divisions this year! Players will have the opportunity for All Star Teams via coach nominations for extended tournament play through March ending the full weekend before AISD spring break in early March.

Team/Player Alignment: We use a coach draft process to have parity across all teams, so we cannot accept friend or rideshare requests. Twins will be drafted together. We hope to be able to have enough players in each division to avoid combining any grades and will announce in advance if that appears to be the only option.

Skills Evaluations/Tryouts in early November: There is an evaluation date for coaches to watch players run through a set of drills, to aid in the drafting process for equitable teams. This is required for all registered players. Locations by grade/division will be announced once confirmed and posted on our website. Any new player to ALYBA that does not attend evaluations will be blind drafted but all players will make a team. Blind draft simply means drawn at random out of a hat in snake draft order after all other players have been selected.

Parent Coaches: We rely on parents and high school players to volunteer to coach and you will register during your player registration process by choosing the volunteer option in the program offering for your player/s grade/s. A volunteer ALYBA board member will contact you directly to discuss coaching and then notify you if you have been selected to coach. Some grades we have more volunteer than we need, and some we have to search for, but we cannot do this without you! Selected coaches will need to complete a background check.

Practice gear/Uniforms: Game Day Jersey's are ordered during enrollment and are included in the regular registration fee. T-shirt fit size is sufficient for jersey size. Youth sizes are shorter length than adult sizes. Players only need good basketball shoes and black athletic shorts for game days. There is no other required gear or charge from ALYBA. Please see the League Coaches menu for game rules, goal heights, ball sizes, etc.
